A long-loved Honda model may be returning to Interstate Honda, and we couldn’t be happier. The Honda Prelude Hybrid, recently unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show as an electrified coupe, is more than a nod to the brand’s storied history. If it enters production, this new Honda model will also give us clues about what future models may hold.
Two-Door Hybrid Coupe
While no specific information about the powertrain or features of the Honda Prelude Hybrid has been unveiled yet, we do know what the concept looks like. The Honda Prelude was a beloved Honda model in the 1980s and 1990s, and the updated version can be viewed as a 21st-century interpretation of that design style. The two-door coupe is sleek and sporty, set to offer an exhilarating experience for drivers.
Here is what Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe had to say about the Honda Prelude Hybrid at a press conference: “Honda has always been committed to creating sporty vehicles. And the word ‘prelude’ means an ‘introductory or preceding performance.’ This model will become the prelude for our future models which will inherit the ‘joy of driving’ into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda’s unalterable sports mindset.”
Honda Prelude History
The Honda Prelude was produced over five generations from 1978 to 2001. While it was similar to the Honda Accord, the Honda Prelude featured a sportier style. It was also notable for being the first Honda model with a moonroof. In common with its stablemates, it won accolades from the press and drivers alike.
